Where most people are
Most leadership problems in a small business are not a skills gap
They are a time problem, a confidence problem or a habit that worked at five people and stops working at twenty. Nobody tells you, because there is nobody above you to say it.
Coaching gives one person the space to think it through with someone outside the business, and to leave each session with something they will do differently.
The three we hear most
- 1
The owner doing every job. Every decision still comes back to you, and the business cannot grow past the hours in your week.
- 2
The manager promoted for being good at the job. Great at the work, never shown how to lead the people doing it.
- 3
The senior leader in a bigger role. Leading through growth or change, and needing to bring the team along without losing them.
What coaching covers
Shaped around the person, not a syllabus
Every programme is different. These are the areas that come up most with owners and managers in small businesses.
Difficult conversations
Saying the hard thing clearly and fairly, and keeping the relationship.
Delegation and letting go
Handing work over properly, so it stays done and you stay out of the detail.
Leading through growth and change
Setting direction when the business, the team or the structure is moving.
Confidence as a new manager
Moving from colleague to manager, and making decisions people will follow.
Workload and resilience
Protecting your time and energy when everything feels urgent.
A team that works together
Trust, accountability and fewer problems landing back on your desk.
How it works
Three steps, and the price is agreed first
- 1
A free conversation
Tell us who the coaching is for, what is happening and what good would look like. We will say whether coaching is the right answer.
- 2
Matched with a vetted coach
We introduce a coach suited to the person and the goals. You agree the goals, the number of sessions and the price before anything starts.
- 3
Sessions, then a review
One-to-one sessions online or in person. At the end, a review of progress against the goals, shared with the business only with the coachee's agreement.
Coaching and HR together
Coaching works best when the basics are clear
A manager can only lead well when expectations, policies and processes are clear. That is why coaching sits alongside our HR work: the coach helps the person grow, and your HR partner makes sure the structure around them holds.
Coaching can run alongside a Retained HR Partner plan, so everyone works from the same picture of your business.
What coaching is not:
- Counselling or therapy. If someone needs mental health support, we will point you to the right help, such as an employee assistance programme or occupational health.
- A route around a fair process. If a performance or conduct issue has become formal, start with Employee Relations Support.
- Training for a whole team. For group sessions, see Training.

Who are the coaches?
Experienced, vetted coaches we work with directly, chosen for their work with owners and managers in small and growing businesses. We match you with the coach who suits the person and the goals, and you can meet them before you commit.
How much does leadership coaching cost?
Coaching is bespoke, so the price depends on who it is for, the goals and the number of sessions. After a free first conversation you get a clear proposal with a fixed price, agreed before anything starts.
Is coaching confidential?
Yes. What is said in sessions stays between the coach and the person being coached. The business agrees the goals at the start and hears about progress at the review, with the coachee's agreement.
Is it online or in person?
Either, or a mix. Most sessions run by video, which makes them easier to fit around a working week, and in-person sessions can be arranged.
Can coaching fix a performance problem?
Coaching helps someone who wants to develop. If a performance issue has become formal, or a manager is facing a disciplinary, the right route is a fair process first, and that is Employee Relations Support. Coaching can follow once things are clear.
